Our First Nordic Home — Torrgatan 9, Mariehamn Åland

In 2023, LizArtworks opened its first physical store in the Nordic region at Torrgatan 9 in Mariehamn, Åland — a vibrant space where African heritage and Scandinavian culture came together under one roof.

In 2023, LizArtworks took a bold step and opened its first physical store in the Nordic region at Torrgatan 9 in Mariehamn, Åland. What started as a pop-up concept quickly grew into a permanent creative space — a colourful shop filled with handcrafted jewelry, African textiles, wearable art, and cultural products. The store became more than just a retail space. It was a meeting point for cultures — a place where visitors could discover the richness of African beadwork, browse through stacks of vibrant ankara and kitenge fabrics, and find unique handmade accessories that told a story. Every corner of the shop reflected the LizArtworks philosophy: that fashion and art can be bridges between communities. The walls were lined with handmade necklaces, bracelets, and earrings crafted using traditional African beading techniques. Shelves held carefully folded textiles from East and West Africa. T-shirts, dashiki tops, tote bags, and cultural items filled the space with colour and energy. A small seating area inside the shop invited guests to sit, have a conversation, and connect — turning shopping into a cultural experience. The Åland chapter was an important milestone in the LizArtworks journey. It proved that African-inspired design resonates far beyond its origins, and that creative entrepreneurship can thrive in unexpected places. Though the journey has since moved to Turku, Finland, the Torrgatan 9 store remains a cherished part of the LizArtworks story — the place where the Nordic chapter truly began.
